ABOUT MMN
In addition to being a pop/jazz singer-songwriter, MMN is an artist who will sit with you and help you process your feelings through writing and singing about them. She sings with a voice that feels smooth and edgy at the same time, and creates music that sounds like it’s a conversation with a friend late at night, or someone who is holding you while you cry. Her music has both a warm and nostalgic quality to it, but also a sense of honesty and accuracy that you can hear in her inspiration from some of her favourite artists, like Grent Perez, Daniel Caesar, Laufey, and Beabadoobee. Using gentle melodies and hard-hitting lyrics, MMN uses her own day-to-day struggles to create a personal story that will help to remind her audience that they are not alone
As a Filipino-American artist living in both New Jersey (USA) and the Philippines, MMN’s songs come from experiences that illuminate her unique growth process related to family, identity, and being able to express vulnerability. Regardless of whether she is working on her own fear or losses and the stresses associated with being the oldest child of her younger siblings, her music is also an avenue of creativity that expresses how many people feel. At its core, MMN’s music is about connection. She creates a space for her audience to recognize they have a connection, that they have been heard, and most importantly, that someone cares about them.
The presence of music in MMN's life has been there from the beginning. Her childhood was filled with the music of Bruno Mars, Earth, Wind & Fire, and the Bee Gees, or anything along the lines of R&B music her mom played in the car on long road trips. This helped her appreciate groove, harmony, and storytelling at an early age. She began singing in church, expanded her musicality with the violin, and discovered her musical voice with a cappella music in high school, where she led groups to achieve success in competitions from local showcases to national stages. Behind the scenes, songwriting became the most personal way for her to cope with feelings she couldn't articulate. Initially, songwriting was a way to cope privately, but over time it developed into a calling. Eager to learn more about songwriting and its craft, MMN studied this art form at Berklee College of Music, where she developed her artistry and created a unique sound for herself as an artist.
Today, MMN continues to write and create purposely with her life experiences, turning the uncertainties of everyday life into music that provides healing, provokes questions, and establishes emotional connections. Her songs are not only the expression of her emotional state, but they also serve as an invitation for others to process their feelings more profoundly, reflect on who they are honestly, and evolve with MMN during our time together. CURLY HAIR
Song Cover
The beauty standard that a lot of people grew up with was that straight hair is beautiful and curly hair is messy. This Pop/Jazz ballad is meant for the people that was told that they had to straighten their hair. Five minutes of jealousy, angst, and yearning to be considered ‘pretty’. MMN wrote this song with her little cousin in mind, knowing that she will have to go through a similar journey of accepting your hair and who you are. Stay tuned for more releases!
